Rediscovering What Excites Your Soul
"Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that." – Howard Thurman
Have you ever looked in the mirror and asked yourself, “What excites my soul?” As children, we knew the answer instinctively until parents, teachers, and society began telling us what was acceptable, possible, or safe.
I still remember my grandmother warning me against basketball, claiming a bump on the head would make me dumber. My own dreams of becoming a football player for Manchester United faded when my mother pushed me toward swimming. She wanted me to become a lawyer or doctor. Reflecting her own beliefs shaped by her upbringing in Soviet Union. This type of stories aren’t unique, they’re just echoes of other people’s limits.
What I’m learning now is simple: no matter our age, we can pause, look honestly at ourselves, and ask what truly excites us. Taking that leap isn’t easy, but maybe, just maybe, fulfilment and the results we crave are byproducts of following what lights us up inside. I’m committed to finding out, and I hope you’ll ask yourself the same question and leap, too.
Alex, the timing couldn't have been more perfect. 😁

Very true! When you look back and take stock, there are usually a few patterns that point you to specific things that light you up.
